About Roof Racks

The Toyotaroof rack is one of the most useful of motoring accessories, providing the facility to carry extra loads safely and easily.

When the Toyotaroof rack first came into use they were attached to the body of the car by mounting them directly to the rain gutter that ran around the line of the roof. Since the construction of cars with rain gutters was abandoned, the Toyotaroof rack would be connected to the car by connecting hooks to the top of the door frames.

Many modern vehicles now have permanent fittings on the roof which are designed to offer an anchor to a Toyotaroof rack, whilst other vehicles have a permanent factory installed Toyotaroof rack.

The Toyotaroof rack can assist with the transportation of a variety of items and is particularly useful if the car is carrying a large family or group. Items such as suitcases, bikes, canoes, kayaks, skis, and water skis are frequently seen on roof racks, as are a variety of other boxes and containers. A variant of the simple Toyotaroof rack is the roof box. This provides additional storage but is covered, providing protection for its contents from the external elements.

Whatever the type, a Toyotaroof rack is an excellent way of transporting a whole range of items on the roof of the car.

Toyota trivia

  • It's not exactly a secret, but surprisingly few people are aware that Toyota also makes a couple of other brand-name cars. That's because they own or partially own Lexus, Subaru, and Scion.
  • The founder's son, Kiichiro Toyoda, did a trip around the US to get inspiration for car designs. That's why those early Toyota cars look more than a little bit like Chevrolets and Dodge Power Wagons.
  • Without the US, Toyota very likely wouldn't exist today as we know it. In 1950, the car company was struggling to fight off bankruptcy and only managed to make 300 trucks until the Korean War kicked off. The US then put in an order for 5,000 vehicles, transforming the company and its future.
  • As well as their other records, Toyota is known to consistently break sales records as well. It's not just the Corolla either. They have been so successful some years that they outsold Honda and Nissan combined!
  • Incredibly, there are more Toyota made cars on the world's roads than any other vehicle. It's not just high sales figures that make that viable either. Their durability means that even Toyotas that were sold 20 years ago are still on the road!
