Alfa Romeo Brera Common Problems and Solutions
Engine rattling
Problem:
Can you hear a rattling noise coming from the engine? Has the engine management warning light appeared on the dashboard? If yes to one or both of these issues, it is most likely to have been caused by a faulty timing chain.
Solution:
You will need to replace the timing chain to resolve this issue. You are best to check that the timing belt tensioners are alright, because if not, they will also need to be replaced. We can help you to find a replacement timing chain, at a very low price.

Excessive smoke/lack of power
Problem:
The EGR (Exhaust Gas Re-circulation) valve is prone to becoming clogged up on this car. If this does become clogged with carbon, then you may have noticed that there is an excessive amount of smoke coming from the exhaust. Another common symptom of this problem, is for a lack of power when accelerating.
Solution:
You can remove the EGR valve and clean it with some carb cleaner and a small brush (like a tooth brush), in order to remove the carbon build up. Once the cleaned EGR valve is re-fitted, the issue should be resolved. The video below will give you an idea on how to remove the EGR valve:

Paint chips
Problem:
Have you noticed chips in the paint of your Brera? This seems to be a particular problem for cars painted in 'Alfa Red' and is most prone on the following areas: bonnet, front bumper and rear wheel arch edges. None the less, this can still be an issue on other colours too.
Solution:
You will need to rub down the affected areas, treat them and touch them up with the proper paint.
