BMW Z4 Common Problems and Solutions
Sticky Steering
Problem:
When you turn the steering wheel, it doesn't straighten out without you specifically turning it.
Solution:
In some of the earlier models of the Z4 Roadster, there is a high chance of a steering column malfunction, and you're going to have to replace the entire thing. You'll easily find a new steering column on our parts list, and they're easier to remove and install than you might think.

Windscreen Wiper fails
Problem:
The windscreen wiper stalls or completely fails.
Solution:
Small pieces of metal have probably got into the wiper motor's grease. That means you're going to have to strip it down and give it a good clean before reinstalling it. If the problem has been going on for a while, you may need to replace the wiper motor, which you can order directly from BreakerYard.

Rattling From Exhaust (Coupes)
Problem:
You can hear a rattling noise coming from the exhaust.
Solution:
It's likely that you have broken exhaust hangers. It's very common for the rear left hanger to break off so that the rear exhaust box simply rattles around. You're going to need to order a new exhaust hanger from us and secure it.

Side Mirror Glass Breakage
Problem:
The glass on the driver or passenger side mirrors has fallen out and smashed on the floor.
Solution:
An annoying problem that happens all too often with the Roadster, it's an easy fix. Order replacement glass from our drop-down menu for the Z4, and glue the replacements into place.

Weak Headlights
Problem:
The headlights seem to be a lot weaker than you expected.
Solution:
This is simply a case of replacing the existing current bulbs with xenon equipped ones. Pretty much any bulb upgrade is going to improve your nighttime visibility because the headlights that come with the Z4 Roadster are famously weak. The problem is made even worse if the lenses are glazed or matted. We always have xenon bulbs in stock and will quickly deliver when you order from us.

Brakes Grinding
Problem:
You can hear the brakes grind when you apply the brake pedal, and braking time has increased.
Solution:
The brake lines on the Z4 Roadster are very prone to rust, and a lot of the brake problems with the car are due to that. You're going to need to replace all of the corroded brake lines, which you can find very easily in our store. It's a good idea to grease them once installed to protect them from the elements.

Cracked Alloys
Problem:
The alloy wheels have cracks across them.
Solution:
The alloys that come with the Z4 are notoriously fragile compared to other cars, and cracking is very common. You'll need to order replacements, which you can find easily on our parts list. However, it's also worth taking a look through the spokes to the inside of the wheels because cracks may also have formed there. If so, you may need to replace the entire wheel unit.
