Citroen AX Common Problems and Solutions
Overheating
Problem:
If you are having problems with overheating, then it is often known for the cylinder head gasket to fail on these vehicles.
Solution:

Front seat adjustment problems
Problem:
It is known for the front seat adjustment to fail over time on these cars. Due to having to move the front seats to gain access to the rear. This heavy wear can then lead to the front seats not locking into the correct place.
Solution:
If you are having this problem on your Citroen AX then you will need to either rebuild the seat mechanism, or find a replacement front seat. You can search for a new or used seat here with us at Breakeryard.

Suspension problems
Problem:
Have you ever noticed that there is a creaking noise coming from the suspension when you are getting in and out of the car? or does it feel like the rear wheels are not sitting straight? (towing out). This is an indication of a problem with the suspension arm bearing.
Solution:
Fitting replacement suspension arm bearings will then resolve this issue.

Rear brake problems
Problem:
If the handbrake lever has to travel a long way in order to engage with the handbrake and if the foot pedal is having to travel too far towards the ground to engage with the brakes. These are clear indications of a problem with the rear brakes.
Solution:
As mentioned above, this problem is an indication that the rear brakes need to be adjusted. Adjusting them should then resolve the problem.

Rust on front wings
Problem:
It is well known for the AX to often suffer with corrosion on the front wings. This corrosion is caused by the brackets which secure the front bumper, the rust is usually on the side next to the window washer water reservoir.
Solution:
The rust begins on the inside of the wing, so in order to solve this problem you will need to open the bonnet and check along the wing behind the headlights for rust. To fix this problem you will then need to cut out the rusted area.
