Rear height corrector failure
Problem:
If you are finding that the rear end of the car is not lifting up when you turn on the engine, you have a problem with the rear height correctors. This is a known fault on the Xantia. Is the problem in the video below anything like yours?
Solution:
There is a manual lever on the centre console near the handbrake for operating the height correctors which you can use as a temporary solution. There is a valve on the height correctors which is prone to sticking. It is recommended that you take the car to a specialist to sort the problem. Heater problems
Problem:
The Citroen Xantia is prone to a fault with the heater blowers not working when you turn the engine on. It is known for the heater blowers to work when the ignition is turned a couple of times. But as soon as the engine is turned on, they cut out. This problem is caused by a fault with the ignition switch.
Solution:
You will need to replace the ignition switch to sort this problem.

ABS warning light
Problem:
If you have noticed that the ABS warning light has come on the dashboard, this is usually caused by a faulty ABS sensor.
Solution:
You will need to have a diagnostic check done to correctly identify exactly which sensor is causing the warning light to come on. You will need to replace the faulty sensor to fix the problem.

Misfiring when engine is cold
Problem:
On the diesel version of the Xantia a known issue is for the engine to misfire when the engine is cold. This will mean that you have an irregular idling instead of a constant engine speed. A fault with the glow plugs is the cause of this failure.
Solution:
Fitting replacement glow plugs will resolve this issue.
