History of Citroen Xsara Picasso
The Citroen Xsara Picasso is a five-door compact MPV that was in production between 1999 and 2010. Known for its extensive range of engines, spacious cabin and comfortable drive, the Xsara Picasso was a popular model amongst drivers across the globe. It''s a reliable vehicle that offers great value for money. It received a four out of five star adult occupant safety rating at the 2001 Euro NCAP safety tests. The Xsara Picasso is one of the most popular people carriers ever made, offering a wide range of options. It is known to come well equipped, giving buyers good value for money. Warranty Direct ranked it seventh in its reliability index list of 52 MPVs. This is based on various aspects relating to reliability, such as the number of times a car fails, how much it costs to repair and how long it spends off road due to the repairs taking place.
Citroen Xsara Picasso (1999 to 2012)
The Citroen Xsara Picasso began production in 1999 in France and Spain. Production then expanded to factories in areas across the world, including China, Brazil, Egypt and the UK. Production of the Xsara Picasso continued for the UK market until 2009, although it continued in other markets for longer.
At the time of its release, Citroen unveiled two trim levels: the LX and SX. Buyers had a choice of three four cylinder engines; one 1.6 litre and two 1.8 litre petrols. There was also a 2.0 litre HDI diesel engine. A new 1.6 HDI diesel version with improved fuel efficiency was introduced as part of the revised range in 2005. All models came with ABS, dual front and side airbags, and three point seatbelts. However, there were no deadlocks or alarm.
In 2007, Auto Trader reviewed the Xsara Picasso and called it the most popular PMV in the UK. They said this was down to the "combination of practicality and affordability". However, according to What Car? the Xsara Picasso restricts driver visibility.
It''s still a practical, versatile family wagon but there are a number of common issues with the Citroen Xsara Picasso, including various electrical problems. One problem in particular is with the warning lights, as they can come on for no reason. The engine is known to be noisy, with a strained sound, especially the older 1.6 litre petrol engines. The only exception is the 1.6HDi. Overall, the Xsara Picasso is let down by its poor interior trim and electrical faults.
