Daewoo Nubira Common Problems and Solutions
Can’t Close Bonnet
Problem:
The bonnet won’t shut completely and only closes to the halfway point.
Solution:
Have a look at your bonnet latch. This is very weak on the Nubira and will break very easily. Ordering a newly designed version from our online store is quick and easy, and installation is even easier.

Constant Overheating
Problem:
Your engine is quickly overheating, even on short drives. You may spot coolant on the floor where you’ve parked, and there will be sludge in your radiator.
Solution:
A cracked radiator assembly is very common and can happen as early as 82,000-miles. Your only option is going to be to replace the entire radiator assembly. This is a challenging DIY job, but there are many online guides, and we always have them available to order.

Ignition Switch is Stuck
Problem:
You can’t turn the key when it is in the ignition.
Solution:
First, try spraying some air into the ignition, as there may be debris inside that’s preventing it from turning. If that doesn’t do anything, then it could be a dead battery in your key, which sometimes prevents the ignition from turning (this is quite rare, though). Your final option is to replace the ignition lock cylinder. This can be a fiddly job, but it’s very doable, and a garage will charge a fortune. Order a new cylinder from our parts page for quick delivery.

Engine Stalling
Problem:
The engine has started to stall regularly and may take multiple attempts to start.
Solution:
This is an obvious case of a fuel pump either starting to fail or having gone completely. The good news is that a new fuel pump is always available to order from our parts list and installation is very straightforward.

Air Vents Blowing Hot
Problem:
The internal air vents will only emit hot air, even when you turn them all the way to cold.
Solution:
This is a minor annoyance, but it’s worth fixing as it’s very inexpensive and simple to do. The issue is being caused by a faulty temperature switch and is a very common fault on the Nubira. Order a new temperature switch from us and easily slot it into place.

Heater adjusting problems
Problem:
If you are having problems with adjusting the air flow on your heating, this is caused by a fault with the distribution flaps.
Solution:
Fitting replacement distribution flaps will sort the problem.

Suspension problem
Problem:
As you drive over speed bumps, or rough surfaces are you hearing a knocking noise coming from the suspension? This is an indication that the anti-roll bar links are failing.
Solution:
You will need to replace the anti-roll bar links to fix the problem. We can help you find replacement anti-roll bar links at very low prices.

Front door handle issue
Problem:
Have you noticed the chrome coming off the front door handles? This is a common failure on the Nubira.
Solution:
You can either live with the issue, or you will need to replace the door handles to rectify the situation.

Handbrake problems
Problem:
Is the handbrake not holding the weight of the car on an incline? This is an indication that the handbrake cable and the rear brakes need adjusting. Another symptom of the handbrake cable needing adjusted is when you have to pull the handbrake lever very high before it will engage.
Solution:
As mentioned above, you need to make the necessary adjustments to the handbrake cable and rear brakes to sort this issue.

Starting problems
Problem:
There are known issues with the crankshaft position sensor failing on the Nubira and several other Daewoo vehicles. This part can overheat and burn out the capacitor. When this part fails the engine management warning light will appear on the dashboard and you will have difficulties starting the car. The video below explains the purpose of the crankshaft position sensor:
Solution:
This issue was subject to a recall and a new revised crankshaft position sensor will need fitted to resolve the issue.
