Daihatsu Terios Common Problems and Solutions
Slow Acceleration and Engine Misfiring
Problem:
Your Terios is less responsive when accelerating, and the engine sometimes misfires.
Solution:
The exhaust on a Terios can be very susceptible to excessive wear, especially if you're using the car only for short trips. Check the exhaust pipe for damage. If you see rust, cracks, or breakages, you should browse our online store for a replacement.

Rear washer jet failure
Problem:
Has the rear window washer jet on your Terios started to fail? If so, this is common and is probably caused by a blockage in the tube or the one-way valve. The tube runs from the front of the vehicle, underneath the doors, into the boot. You can access the tube by removing the kick plates. Sometimes, the tube can become disconnected from the jet, causing the problem.
Solution:
Check whether the tube or the one-way valve is blocked. If either is blocked, clearing the blockage will resolve the problem. If the tube has become disconnected from the jet, reconnecting it will fix the issue.

Engine misfiring
Problem:
Have you started to notice that the engine is misfiring? Does the vehicle have poor engine idling? If so, this could indicate a coil pack failure. The engine should be idling at just below 1000rpm, rather than idling erratically, with the rev needle jumping up and down irregularly. Another common sign of a failed coil pack is a lack of power and possible engine cutting out.
Solution:
You will need to fit a replacement coil pack to fix the issue. Watch the video below for guidance on how to replace it:

Engine management warning light
Problem:
Has the engine management warning light appeared on the dashboard? If so, the most probable cause is a faulty lambda sensor. If the lambda sensor fails, you might notice a slight increase in fuel consumption and/or a loss of power when you try to accelerate.
Solution:
Run a diagnostic check to ensure this is the cause of the warning light. If the lambda sensor is responsible, you'll need to replace it to resolve the issue. We aim to help you find a replacement lambda sensor at a very low price.

Engine Cutting Out
Problem:
When decelerating, the engine cuts out.
Solution:
If your Terios stalls when you pull up at junctions, there's a good chance that your idle control valve or vacuum pipe has split. Check those and order replacements from us if you see any damage. If they appear fine, then it could be that your oil breather pipe is blocked. You'll just need to clean it out, and the issue will be sorted.

High Fuel Consumption and Brake Judder
Problem:
You are consuming a lot of fuel and experiencing occasional or constant brake judder.
Solution:
This could be an issue with your brake discs. The Terios can sometimes wear through them more quickly than other cars, and it's not uncommon for them to need replacing every 10,000km. Not only will you need to buy your replacement brake discs from our parts list, but you should also inspect the wheels for any damage and replace them if necessary.
