Ford Capri Common Problems and Solutions
Spare wheel well
Problem:
If you have noticed that the spare wheel well is getting clogged up with water, this is most likely due to the bungs.
Solution:
To solve this problem, remove the bungs. You are best checking this is done, as the retained water will only lead to future issues.

Carburettor problems
Problem:
If the car is still fitted with the original Ford carburettor then it will not be running as well as it could be.
Solution:
Most cars have now been fitted with the Webber replacements but if not, make sure you get it done soon to get the maximum performance from your Capri.

Gearbox problems
Problem:
Due to age there is going to be wear on this part. Particularly check for noise in 2nd gear. This can either be due to worn bushes. A more severe problem would be worn bearings.
Solution:
The bushes are not too expensive to replace. If it is the bearings you will need some severe gearbox reconstruction or even a new gearbox.

Front brake problems
Problem:
The front brake discs can be very worn. You would notice this if there is a real jittering from the front brakes. The jittering could also be caused by the wheel bearings. You will have to identify exactly which part is at fault.
Solution:
You will have to replace the discs if they are the problem. Otherwise, a replacement wheel bearing will be needed if this is the problem.

Dropped doors
Problem:
The doors are very heavy and can cause a lot of stress on the door pins. Any rot around the door posts could also cause them to drop.
Solution:
If they have dropped due to the door pins, you will have to replace the pins.

Wheel arch rot
Problem:
Make sure you check both the front and rear wheel arches on the car as they prone to rot. Ensure that the inner protective guards are in place to help prevent this problem.
Solution:
If you need to replace them, then you will need new wings which are hard to come by and can be very expensive.

Front valance and headlamp surrounds
Problem:
If you are considering buying a Ford Capri, it is best to check the headlamp surrounds and front valance for rust. It is prone to rusting in these areas.
Solution:
