Hyundai Getz Common Problems and Solutions
Jerky Acceleration
Problem:
The car has developed a slight jerk that happens whenever you accelerate.
Solution:
Any hesitation or ‘jerking’ in your car needs to be addressed. Start by checking the spark plugs and either clean or replace them and the housing unit. It’s also worth cleaning the throttle body if your spark plugs are fine. Find the replacements you need on our website.

Locked Rear Door Window
Problem:
The rear door window is locked in place while it is open.
Solution:
Typically caused by overuse, a stuck door window is most likely just a worn window regulator. These are readily available in our Getz parts list. It can be a challenging repair due to the regulator's position, but it is manageable with a little patience.

Stiff Gear Changes
Problem:
The gear stick in your Getz is becoming harder to move and stiffer.
Solution:
This usually affects older models of the Getz because they tend to have more miles on the clock. Ideally, you should have a mechanic perform a full diagnostic check since the causes can vary. You can inspect your cables for stretching or damage and examine the rocker ball joints. If any of these are worn, they will need replacing. It can be difficult to pinpoint the exact issue, as it is often related to age, but you can find replacements for any worn or damaged parts using our Getz parts list.

Rumbling noise from wheels
Problem:
If you hear a rumbling noise coming from the wheels, it is most likely caused by broken wheel bearings. This will be especially noticeable when driving round corners and/or at speeds above 30mph.
Solution:
Fitting replacement wheel bearings on the affected wheels will solve the problem. Watch the video below to learn how to change the wheel bearing yourself:

Suspension problems
Problem:
There are known issues with the front drop links failing on the Getz. If you hear a clonking noise coming from the front suspension, especially when driving over speed bumps or poorly surfaced roads, then this is most likely cause.
Solution:
You will need to replace the front drop links to resolve this issue.

Poor starting
Problem:
The most common cause of difficulty starting this car is a faulty sensor. It will typically be either the cam sensor or the crankshaft sensor causing the issue.
Solution:
You will need to run a diagnostic check to precisely identify which sensor is causing the problem. Replacing the faulty sensor will fix the issue. We can help you find the replacement sensor at a very low price.

Engine ticking noise
Problem:
The Getz has known issues with a ticking noise coming from the engine, particularly when the engine is cold. This is caused by a recognised issue with the tappets.
Solution:
Before you attempt to adjust or replace the tappets, you should change the engine oil. Using a different type of engine oil may resolve the issue. Try using a higher quality oil, but if this does not fix the problem, you will need the tappets adjusted or even replaced. This may be covered under warranty.

Car Vibrates When In Neutral
Problem:
When the car is in neutral, it vibrates. The vibrations reach the steering wheel, pedals, and doors.
Solution:
There’s a small chance that this is either the engine base or spark plugs. Check both for faults and replace if necessary. If you don’t see any problems with either, then it’s likely caused by a malfunctioning oxygen sensor. Order a replacement from our store, and it’s simple enough to fit.

Car Doesn’t Start
Problem:
The car refuses to start, particularly in the cold weather. You have already checked the battery and confirmed it is working and charged.
Solution:
This could be caused by a variety of issues, but for any Hyundai Getz manufactured after 2010, there’s a high chance that the problem stems from the alarm module. The module contains a circuit breaker, and if it fails, your car simply won’t start. Remove the alarm module and replace it with a functioning one from our website. This is a repair that anyone can attempt themselves.
