Hyundai ix35 Common Problems and Solutions
Instrument Panel Gauges Dropping
Problem:
When driving, the instrument panel gauges will drop back to their starting position. This issue is often accompanied by flickering running lights.
Solution:
In some cases, this is down to a software issue, and your control unit will need to be reset and upgraded. However, the problem can return at any time, even with the update. Hyundai is aware of this fault on the ix35, and has started recommending a full replacement of the instrument panel cluster.

Front Suspension creaking
Problem:
There is a creaking sound coming from your front suspension, especially when driving on uneven surfaces or over speedbumps.
Solution:
A common problem with a lot of 4x4 Hyundai models, this is caused by excessive movement between the front shock absorber rod protection and the upper front suspension bearing. This is a very easy fix, and you won't even need to buy any replacement parts. Simply pull down the cover for the shock absorber rod and apply a sealant to the outer edge.

Rear Suspension Knocking
Problem:
You can hear a knocking sound coming from the rear suspension when you're driving.
Solution:
Caused by a loose rear lower arm safety bolt, in some cases, you will have to tighten the bolts. In other cases, that looseness will have damaged the safety bolt, and you will need to replace the outer retaining bolts on both of the lower rear suspension arms. You can get various bolts from us to assist in this repair.

Problem:
There's an unexpected and unusual noise coming from the door. You can normally hear it when locking or unlocking the door.
Solution:
This is a common problem with the Hyundai ix35, and it's caused by a lack of adequate lubrication. The problem is that if it's reached the stage where you can hear the sound, then the damage has already been done. You will need to install a new locking mechanism which you can get from us.

Entertainment System Shutting Down
Problem:
Your entertainment system slows down and then shuts down.
Solution:
If you keep seeing the 'System Shutting Down' message on your entertainment system, then the most likely problem is simply a lack of battery. If you tend to drive your ix35 for short bursts, it's worth taking it out for a longer drive. In worst-case scenarios, you may need a replacement battery, which you can get from us here.

Sat Nav problem
Problem:

Clutch problems
Problem:
There has been known issues with clutch problems on the ix35. There has been several reports of a burning smell and then an issue with the gears not engaging and the clutch pedal going soft. This can be a dangerous problem as it seems to be happening to a lot of people when they are in traffic. Sometimes turning off the engine and restarting can temporarily resolve the issue. A fault with the clutch master cylinder seems to be the main cause of this failure.
Solution:
Having the clutch master cylinder replaced should resolve the issue. This should still be covered under warranty and Hyundai should fix it free of charge. If not, you are responsible for the cost of the repair. We can help you find a replacement clutch master cylinder at a very competitive price.

Seat Belt Doesn't Tighten
Problem:
You've noticed that when you tug on the seatbelt, it doesn't lock into place as it should do.
Solution:
This is a problem with the seatbelt pre-tensioner. It's potentially life-threatening, so always make sure that you tackle this problem as quickly as possible. A large number of Hyundai's made between November 2011 and June 2012 were so badly affected by this fault that a recall was forced. You could replace the pre-tensioner yourself with one of our parts, but this can be very difficult due to its placement on the ix35. A Hyundai dealer will be able to check and repair this for you.

Leaking Fuel
Problem:
You can smell diesel or can feel a drop in power.
Solution:
This caused a recall by Hyundai on any ix35 built between the 1st September and 2nd November 2011. This is caused by a faulty fuel hose, and you can either replace it with one of ours, repair the hose yourself, or take it to a Hyundai dealer.

Three Beeps from Rear Sensor
Problem:
When in traffic or when parked, the rear sensors are triggered and make three rapid beeps.
Solution:
In most cases, this will simply be a matter of something obstructing the sensors. Check them for dirt, dust, or spider webs and give them a good clean. If this doesn't solve the problem, then you may need to replace the sensors or the sensor control unit. While replacing the sensor is a relatively straightforward (if fiddly) job, replacing the entire unit is very challenging. We stock sensors and units you can buy to fix this issue.
