Hyundai Sonata Common Problems and Solutions
Gear changing problems
Problem:
The current version of the Sonata has known issues with harsh gear changes. It has been known on this version for drivers to have real difficulty changing gears and this is caused by a fault with the TFT (Transmission Fluid Temperature) sensor. This problem sometimes does not even show up when you run a diagnostic check.
Solution:
You will need to replace the faulty TFT sensor to rectify the issue. We can help you find a replacement TFT sensor at a very low price.

Misfiring/lack of power
Problem:
On older versions of the Sonata there can be problems with the throttle body getting clogged up with a carbon build up. If this gets blocked it leads to misfiring and/or a lack of power when you try to accelerate.
Solution:
You will need to remove and clean the throttle body to stop these issues from happening. You can clean it out with some throttle body cleaner and a small brush (like a toothbrush). This will remove any carbon and when you re-fit the part, it should sort the problem.

Erratic idling
Problem:
The coolant temperature sensor on the Sonata is prone to failure. If this part fails it can cause erratic idling with the needle on the rev counter going up and down instead of remaining at a constant speed. The engine management warning light might also appear on the dashboard. Does this look anything like your problem?
Solution:
You need to replace the coolant temperature sensor to fix this problem. We can help you find a replacement coolant temperature sensor at a very low price.
