DPF warning light

Problem:

On newer diesel versions of the Carens, there is a component called a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter), which is known to become blocked if the car is mainly used for short trips around town, etc. This can cause the DPF warning light to appear on the dashboard and may also lead to increased fuel consumption.

Models affected:

Solution:

You can take the vehicle onto an open road and drive at around 2500rpm in fourth gear for about 5-10 minutes to allow the DPF to heat up sufficiently to burn off the unwanted particles and clear the DPF. This should in turn switch off the DPF warning light on the dashboard.
