DPF warning light
Problem:
On newer diesel versions of the Carens there is a part called a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) which is known to get clogged up if the car is only really used for short journeys around town etc. This will make the DPF warning light appear on the dashboard and could also increase fuel consumption.
Solution:
You can take the vehicle out onto an open road and drive at around 2500rpm in fourth gear for about 5-10 mins to allow the DPF to get hot enough to burn off the unwanted particles and clear the DPF. This should in turn switch off the DPF warning light on the dashboard.
