Lexus GS 450h Common Problems and Solutions
Smell of Fuel
Problem:
You can smell fuel from inside the car. There are no warning lights or any noticeable drop in performance.
Solution:
In some GS models built between 2004 and 2007, a manufacturing error caused the fuel pressure sensor to be tightened insufficiently. This has led to a degraded seal, which is allowing fumes from the fuel tank to escape. If ignored, this may end up igniting. You'll need to order a replacement seal from our parts page, replace the worn one and tighten the pressure to avoid the problem happening again.

Towing Hitch Break
Problem:
The towing hitch has cracked or completely broken.
Solution:
The detachable towing hitch on the GS has a known fault where the towing ball can crack. A Lexus/Toyota dealer will replace the detachable towing ball and the housing for free in most cases. If, for some reason, they refuse to do so, you can order replacements easily from us and do the work fairly quickly.

Power Windows Not Working
Problem:
The power windows don't go up or down, or only work occasionally.
Solution:
The power window motor will eventually fail on all cars, but the GS is notorious for the burnout rate. It's tricky to remove the interior door panels, but once done, you'll be able to see the motor immediately. Browse our parts list for a new motor, and installation is very simple. Then replace the door panels, and the windows should be back to normal.
