MINI Countryman Common Problems and Solutions
Fuel pump failure
Problem:
The high-pressure fuel pump on the 1.6L petrol engine is known to fail. If this part fails, you will experience significantly reduced performance, rough running, and a lack of power, as the car may enter 'limp home' mode. The engine management warning light will most likely appear on the dashboard too.
Solution:
Fitting a replacement high-pressure fuel pump will resolve the issue.

Engine rattling noise
Problem:
Have you heard a rattling noise coming from the engine? If so, it could be caused by a poorly lubricated timing chain, which happens when the oil pump does not lubricate the chain adequately. Is the video below similar to your issue?
Solution:
If you hear the rattling noise, you will need to replace the timing chain and tensioners to resolve the issue.

Temperature sensor failure
Problem:
One of the engine temperature sensors is prone to failure. If this component malfunctions, the engine interprets it as being too hot and activates the cooling fan unnecessarily. If you hear the cooling fan running even when the engine is cold, it indicates a failed temperature sensor.
Solution:
You will need to run a diagnostic check to accurately identify which temperature sensor is faulty and then fit a replacement to resolve the issue.

Erratic engine idling
Problem:
Has the engine in your Countryman been idling unpredictably? If so, the turbocharger dump valve is known to fail on this vehicle. When this part fails, you will likely notice a lack of power when pressing the accelerator pedal. This poor idling is commonly called 'hunting', which means that the revs fluctuate instead of remaining steady.
Solution:
You will need to fit a replacement turbocharger dump valve to resolve the issue. We aim to assist you in finding your replacement turbocharger dump valve at a price that will leave you satisfied.
