MINI MINI COUNTRYMAN Common Problems and Solutions
Excessive Coolant Use
Problem:
You have to fill up your coolant a lot more often than you should be, and it will completely empty in just 8-10 weeks.
Solution:
Check the top of the gearbox, particularly towards the end of the cylinder head. If you can spot any staining that looks like a white powder, then you will most likely have a leaking thermostat. We always have thermostats in stock for the Countryman, so you can order a replacement quickly and easily. If the thermostat isn’t the problem, then you will need to check the coolant reservoir for any leaks or damage and replace it as necessary.

Rattling from Engine
Problem:
You can hear a rattling sound coming from the engine as you drive.
Solution:
The cause of this is down to not using enough oil, which has resulted in your timing chain becoming stretched. You’ll need to replace the timing chain, and you need to do it before it snaps completely, which will damage the engine. If you can hear rattling coming from your engine, check our parts page for a Countryman timing chain and install it easily.

Weak Clutch
Problem:
The clutch has a weak bite, making it harder to use.
Solution:
This tends to happen early on with the All4 models that come with a manual gearbox. The clutch will tend to wear out pretty early, so you’ll need to order a replacement clutch system from our store and install it.
