The Nissan GT-R is a sporty yet sleek sports coupe vehicle with roots based in the old Skyline GT-R models, although this newer version is a whole new beast. What Car? says that the GT-R has all of the power and acceleration you can handle, with lightning-quick handling and a super-quick twin-clutch gearbox, although they do mention that running costs and fuel bills are high.

Nissan GT-R (2007 - Present)

The first production model of the GT-R was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2007, being launching onto the Japanese market that same year. Europe received the GT-R in 2009, as the third consumer market. The GT-R is currently the only car built using the Premium Midship platform, which is designed to be an evolution of the Front Midship design used on the 2001 Skyline. The Skyline is where the GT-R''s heritage lies, although it no longer carries the Skyline badge.

The GT-R is a four-wheel drive vehicle which uses a twin-turbo six-cylinder engine, similar to the most recent Skyline GT-R generations. The GT-R is a completely new car with a fully redesigned exterior, with little shared from the Skyline variant aside from the signature four round tail lights. It is a new model, rather than a facelifted evolutionary upgrade.

Its based around a hybrid unibody, built on ultra-low-tolerance jigs often used in racecar construction. The bonnet, boot lid and outer door skins are made from aluminium, with aluminium die-cast front shock towers and interior door structures. Body panels on the outside of the car use a multiple-strike stamped coining process to increase overall rigidity and precision.

Nissan use a VR38DETT V6 DOHC engine to power the GT-R, which features plasma transferred wire arc sprayed cylinder bores.

Nissan revised the GT-R model from 2010 with a facelift version, including revised mapping to the engine and changes to valve timing, with a revised exhaust system designed to boost rated power to 500 bhp. Other changes include increased rigidity to the front strut bar, using carbon composite materials. Lighter, stiffer new wheels also complement the revised Dunlop tyres. This updated model went on sale in Japan during 2010, before being released in Europe and other areas from 2011.
