Nissan Terrano Common Problems and Solutions
Idling problem/poor running
Problem:
If you are finding that there is a lack of power or that the engine is idling very irregular and not running as it should, a likely cause is for the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor to be faulty, resulting in high emissions and a poor fuel mixture.
Solution:
Remove the MAF sensor and give it a good clean. If this does not resolve the issue, you will need to fit a replacement MAF sensor. Watch the video below to see how this is done:

Starting problems
Problem:
If you are facing starting problems on your Terrano, it is known for the fuel pipes to corrode which then allows air into the fuel system. You may also notice that the fuel is leaking out of that area.
Solution:
If this is the cause of the problem, you will need to replace the fuel pipe to fix the problem.

Rumbling noise from wheels
Problem:
If you are finding that there is a rumbling noise coming from the wheels when you are turning corners, or when driving at speeds of over 30mph, then a faulty wheel bearing will be most likely the cause.
Solution:
You will need to replace the faulty wheel bearing to resolve the issue.

Gear changing problems
Problem:
It is not unusual to have problems with changing into first, or second gear on the Terrano.
Solution:
To fix this problem, you will need to fit a replacement gearbox.

Turbo problems
Problem:
If you have noticed a real lack of power and maybe hearing a whistling noise coming from the top of the engine when you accelerate, then you have a problem with the turbo seals. The turbo seals are known to wear down on the Terrano.
Solution:
You will need to replace the turbo seals to rectify the problem.

A Thudding Noise While Reversing
Problem:
You can hear a deep thudding noise when you reverse. This may be accompanied by high readings of your temperature gauge when you are driving up a hill.
Solution:
The universal joint that links the differential to the transmission is causing the problem here. You need to address this issue quickly because the more you drive, the more damage it's going to be causing to your car. Check over the entire system between the differentiation and the transmission, and order the replacement parts as needed from us.

Weak Brake Power
Problem:
The brakes require more pressure to be applied.
Solution:
There is probably interference happening between the steering column and the brake pipe that feeds the rear brakes. The result will usually end up being leakage of brake fluid. You'll need to reposition the brake pipe by hand and replace it if it has become damaged. We have these in stock at all times and can deliver them straight to you.

Damp Driver and Passenger Footwell
Problem:
There is a damp floor in the driver and passenger footwells.
Solution:
You have a damaged AC drain pipe. This is a very easy repair job to do yourself. Check the pipe for any small holes or cracks that you can repair with glue. If the holes or cracks are too large, then you will need to order a replacement AC drain pipe from our parts list.

Vehicle Jerks When Driving in 3rd and 5th Gear (4x2 Turbo Diesel Models)
Problem:
When you're driving, and you move into either 3rd or 5th gear, the vehicle starts to jerk. The gearbox and gear stick also move.
Solution:
Look in the upper part of your gearbox and check your neutral position sensor. This is a common issue on 4x2 turbo diesel models of Terrano, and it is very prone to failure. You can simply disconnect it, and the issue will resolve itself, but it's best to fit a replacement, which can be found in our store and delivered.
