Nissan Terrano Common Problems and Solutions
Idling problem/poor running
Problem:
If you notice a lack of power or that the engine idles very irregularly and doesn't run normally, a common cause is a faulty MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor, which can lead to high emissions and a poor fuel mixture.
Solution:
Remove the MAF sensor and give it a thorough clean. If this does not solve the problem, you'll need to fit a replacement MAF sensor. Watch the video below to see how it's done.

Starting problems
Problem:
If you are experiencing starting issues with your Terrano, it is common for the fuel pipes to corrode, which then allows air into the fuel system. You may also notice fuel leaking from that area.
Solution:
If this is the cause of the issue, you will need to replace the fuel pipe to resolve it.

Rumbling noise from wheels
Problem:
If you notice a rumbling noise from the wheels when turning corners or driving at speeds over 30mph, then a faulty wheel bearing is most likely the cause.
Solution:
You will need to replace the faulty wheel bearing to fix the problem.

Gear changing problems
Problem:
It is common to experience problems when shifting into first or second gear on the Terrano.
Solution:
To resolve this issue, you will need to fit a replacement gearbox.

Turbo problems
Problem:
If you notice a lack of power and hear a whistling noise from the top of the engine when you accelerate, then you have a problem with the turbo seals. Turbo seals are known to wear out on the Terrano.
Solution:
You will need to replace the turbo seals to resolve the issue.

A Thudding Noise While Reversing
Problem:
You can hear a deep thudding noise when reversing. This may be accompanied by high readings on your temperature gauge when driving up a hill.
Solution:
The universal joint connecting the differential to the transmission is causing the issue here. You need to address this promptly because the longer you drive, the more damage it will cause to your vehicle. Inspect the entire system between the differential and the transmission, and order the necessary replacement parts from us.

Weak Brake Power
Problem:
The brakes need more pressure to be applied.
Solution:
There is likely interference between the steering column and the brake pipe that supplies the rear brakes. This often causes brake fluid to leak. You will need to adjust the brake pipe manually and replace it if it is damaged. We always keep these in stock and can deliver them directly to you.

Damp Driver and Passenger Footwell
Problem:
There is a damp floor in the driver and passenger footwells.
Solution:
Your AC drain pipe is damaged. This is a simple repair you can do yourself. Inspect the pipe for small holes or cracks that can be sealed with glue. If the holes or cracks are too large, you will need to order a replacement AC drain pipe from our parts list.

Vehicle Jerks When Driving in 3rd and 5th Gear (4x2 Turbo Diesel Models)
Problem:
When you're driving and you shift into either 3rd or 5th gear, the vehicle begins to jerk. The gearbox and gear stick also move.
Solution:
Check the upper part of your gearbox for the neutral position sensor. This is a common issue on 4x2 turbo diesel models of Terrano and is very prone to failure. You can simply disconnect it, and the problem will resolve itself, but it is best to fit a replacement, which can be found in our store and delivered.
