Peugeot 107 Common Problems and Solutions
Rusty Exhaust Box
Problem:
There is too much rust on the rear exhaust box.
Solution:
The 107 has a significant issue with rust forming on the rear exhaust box, but replacements are readily available on our parts list. It's quite straightforward to remove the rusty one and install a new one.

Malfunction Dashboard Readouts
Problem:
The indicators on your dashboard are providing incorrect information.
Solution:
This will be a minor glitch in your steering ECU. Disconnect it, wait for a count of 100, then reconnect it. This should resolve the issue.

Beeping Sound (All Models with Multi-Mode Transmission)
Problem:
While driving and accelerating, you may hear a loud and frequent beeping noise. However, there are no warning lights illuminated on your dashboard.
Solution:
One of the more common problems with the 107s that have multi-mode transmission is clutch wear. In most cases, you will need to replace the entire clutch system, which you can easily find in our store.

Car Has Stopped
Problem:
You are driving your car, but it suddenly stops and won't restart.
Solution:
There's a possibility that this is caused by a battery that has reached the end of its lifespan, in which case you'll need to buy a replacement. We always stock batteries and can deliver them wherever your car is. However, before replacing the battery, it's sometimes worth giving your idle speed control valve a quick check. If it's dirty or damaged, you might be able to clean or replace it instead, which can be much cheaper.

Whirring Sound
Problem:
You can hear a whirring sound when you turn the ignition key, and it sometimes takes multiple attempts to start the engine.
Solution:
Check your battery terminals to ensure they are all clean and working properly. If they appear to be fine, then inspect your starter motor wiring, as it may have been damaged or become loose. If everything looks normal, then the issue likely lies with the starter motor itself, which you will need to order from our parts page and replace.

Extremely Loud Engine
Problem:
The engine is producing a very loud noise while running.
Solution:
You have a cracked catalytic converter. This is quite common on the 107 and occurs because the heat from the manifold affects the weld securing the catalytic converter. You will need to order a new catalytic converter from us and have it installed. It's advisable to purchase a bracket to hold the catalytic converter in place, so you do not have to repeat the repair again.

Power steering problems
Problem:
You might notice that the power steering stops functioning, or the steering becomes very heavy at times. This issue is caused by a problem with the power steering pump.
Solution:
Strangely enough, as a temporary fix, a hard knock with a heavy hammer can get it working again, but the best option is to have a replacement pump fitted.

Problem:
The 107 is known for its irregular idling, where the revs fluctuate instead of remaining steady. This problem is caused by the idle control valve.
Solution:
You will need to install a new idle control valve to fix the problem.

Excessive front Tyre wear
Problem:
The tyres of the Peugeot 107 are known for wearing out very quickly.
Solution:
You must closely monitor the tread depth of the front tyre, which should not fall below the legal limit of 1.6mm. These cars typically require front tyres to be replaced every 15,000 miles.

Airbag warning light
Problem:
If you notice the airbag warning light flashing on the dashboard, it is usually caused by a fault in the firing unit of either the passenger or driver's airbag.
Solution:
You will need a diagnostic check to accurately determine which component is faulty. Afterwards, you will need to replace the faulty firing unit. If the car is still under warranty, the repair will be free; otherwise, you will have to pay for it.

Water leaks
Problem:
If you have noticed water leaking into the cabin, there is probably an issue with the water seals. They tend to fail on the doors and the rear hatchback, which causes the leak. The leak is most likely to be found on the front and rear footwells and inside the boot.
Solution:
If your car is still under warranty, Peugeot should repair the problem free of charge; otherwise, you will need to replace the seals.

Problem:
It is not uncommon for these cars to have issues with the exhaust. If you hear a low growling noise coming from the rear exhaust, then you will need to replace it.
Solution:
As mentioned earlier, you will need to replace the rear back box of the exhaust system. Watch the video below to give you an idea of how to change it:

Problem:
The rear axle has fallen off the car.
Solution:
This was caused by a non-compliant weld on the rear cross member of the axle, and on the off-chance that your 107 is still under warranty, Peugeot will repair it for free. If it's not under warranty, then you will need to browse our store for a replacement axle and ensure that it is welded into place correctly.

Loss of Steering Control
Problem:
The steering wheel isn't functioning properly, and you might notice bumps in the road more clearly.
Solution:
If your 107 was built in the second half of 2013, so it's likely that you have a front shock absorber rod with an internal fault. You will need to find a replacement rod on our parts list, but you may also have to replace both front shock absorbers too.
