Peugeot 5008 Common Problems and Solutions
Weak AC
Problem:
The output from the aircon is very weak.
Solution:
You will need to replace your capacitor, and if that doesn't work, then you're going to need to order a compressor from our parts list and install that.

Dashboard Rattle
Problem:
You can hear a rattling sound coming from your dashboard while driving.
Solution:
This will usually be down to a minor design flaw of the 5008. Check the lower compartment latch key that you can find beneath the steering wheel. That's usually where the rattle comes from. You can order a more suitable replacement from our parts list and install it easily.

Brake Warning System Is Lit
Problem:
You keep getting the 'Braking System Faulty' warning on your dashboard, but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong.
Solution:
Rather than a brake problem, this is very likely going to be an electrical problem. Start by checking your battery, which may have come to its end of life, and you will probably have to order a replacement from us. If the battery is fine, then it's going to be a problem with your wiring. You'll need to check all of the wires that go into the battery, especially those connected to the chassis and the engine earth points. Once you've found the faulty wire, you can repair it fairly easily.

Brake Judder
Problem:
You can feel the brakes judder whenever you press on the brake pedal, especially when driving at high speed.
Solution:
This is very much a problem with older models of the 5008, but it can affect newer models as well. The juddering is being caused by faulty suspension bushes. You'll need to order replacements from us and install them.

Handbrake Failure
Problem:
The electronic handbrake no longer works.
Solution:
This is very common in the 5008, and you're going to have to replace the entire handbrake unit. This can be a big task, but we always have parts for the entire handbrake system in stock, so you can order yours today and have it delivered.

Electric handbrake problem
Problem:
The 5008 is fitted with an electric handbrake, which is known to fail sometimes. You may have found that the handbrake is not engaging properly, or is not holding the weight of the vehicle. There are known problems with the switches and control modules in this vehicle.
Solution:
Once you have identified the exact cause of the fault, you will need to replace this part. The problem can be fixed under warranty, if this is still valid.

Water/Air getting through doors
Problem:
There are known issues with the door seals on the Peugeot 5008. If you are hearing air coming in through the doors when driving, or water is leaking in through the doors, this is due to the broken seals on the door. It is a common problem for the seals to fail on this vehicle.
Solution:
Check that the seals are not split, broken or damaged, if they are, you will need to fit replacement ones, in order to fix the problem.

Poor running/idling
Problem:
If you have found that the engine is running very poorly, or the idling is very irregular, then the most likely cause a problem with the EGR (Exhaust Gas Re-circulation) valves.
Solution:
You can remove and clean out the EGR valves to resolve this issue, or other wise fit replacement parts.

Rear window washer failure
Problem:
It is known for the rear window washers to fail on this vehicle. If you have noticed that the washer jets are not spraying the liquid onto the window, or that there are stains on the ceiling towards the rear where it is leaking in, then you have a problem with the rear window washers.
Solution:
Take the vehicle to a dealer if the vehicle is under warranty, as they will fix this free of charge. The pipes are known to break during cold weather, meaning they need replacing.

Tailgate lock problem
Problem:
You may have noticed that the tailgate lock on your vehicle is not working properly, which is a sign that you have a broken tailgate lock switch. You may find that it is not shutting properly, or is not locking with the central locking.
Solution:
If you are finding the above problem, then you will need to replace the tailgate lock switch, in order to resolve this issue.

Anti-Pollution Light Is Illuminated
Problem:
The anti-pollution warning light has lit up, and in some cases, the orange engine light has illuminated as well.
Solution:
You have a faulty lambda sensor, which you can find on the front of your exhaust pipe. Order your replacement from our store and easily swap the broken one for a new one, and your warning lights will turn off.

Ineffective Braking (2013-2017)
Problem:
The brakes are not working as effectively and take a lot more pressure to slow the car down.
Solution:
This caused a recall of 50008s built between 2013 and 2017, so it's a common issue. The problem is due to material detaching from the timing belt. In most cases, you are going to need to replace both the vacuum pump and the timing belt itself, but if your car is under warranty, then Peugeot should do this for you for free. If your car isn't under warranty, then you can order low-cost replacements from us and do this simple repair job yourself.
