Rover 75 Common Problems and Solutions
Squealing Brakes
Problem:
You can hear a squealing sound coming from the brakes when they are applied.
Solution:
Start by changing your brake fluid and then checking all of your brake pads and brake discs. If the pads are too worn or the brake discs too damaged, then the squealing will cease once you replace them. There’s a slight chance that the brake pads will have become glazed, so it’s best to opt for better quality brake pads from our online store.

Beeping Sound
Problem:
The beeping that you normally hear when reversing only lasts for five seconds before stopping completely.
Solution:
Look under your rear bumper for the parking sensor. There should be a harness connecting the control box to the sensors. It’s very likely that your control box has corroded due to a faulty design by Rover. In most cases, you will need to find a replacement control box from us and install it once it’s been delivered.

Cooling Fan Malfunction
Problem:
The cooling fan either doesn’t work or only works on some settings.
Solution:
The fan in the Rover 75 is notorious for its poor design, and it’s very common to replace it with something entirely different. A good option is to find a Kenlowe fan on our parts list and install it yourself, which can save you a lot of money compared to sending the car to a professional mechanic.

Harsh Vehicle Bounce
Problem:
The car feels every bump in the road, and you can hear a harsh sound coming from the engine.
Solution:
The coils on the Rover 75 are a known weak spot and will often break. We always have coil packs available to order, and they are a lot easier to install than you might think.

Water leaking into front footwells
Problem:
The drain on the scuttle panel can get blocked up, causing the water to leak into the front footwells. If you are finding that the carpets are wet, particularly around the front left corner, then you will need to unblock the drain to stop the leak.
Solution:
As mentioned above, you will need to unblock the drain on the scuttle panel to stop the leak. Watch the video below for an idea how to fix this:

Engine management warning light
Problem:
If you have noticed that the engine management warning light has appeared on the dashboard, there is a good chance the lambda sensor is causing the problem. You will also notice that there is a reduction in fuel economy if this part has failed.
Solution:
Run a diagnostic check to ensure this is the cause. If it is, replacing the lambda sensor will fix the problem. We can help you find a replacement lambda sensor at a very low price.
Difficulty level
Starting problems/engine misfiring
Problem:
The cam sensor is known to fail on the 75. If this part fails you will notice that the car is having problems starting and/or the engine is misfiring when idling. The misfiring causes irregular idling instead of remaining at constant revs.
Solution:
You will need to replace the cam sensor to resolve the issue.

Sill trim coming loose
Problem:
The sill trim is located underneath the doors and is prone to getting knocked off on this car. You may have noticed that it is loose, or has totally broken off.
Solution:
If it has broken off, you will need to purchase a replacement trim, but if it is just loose, you will need to fix it firmly to the body work to ensure it stays on and does not come off so easily in future.
