Rover Mini Common Problems and Solutions
Electrical problems
Problem:
There are cables behind the stereo which can get chaffed, causing electrical problems. This can lead to starting problems and several other electrical faults such as headlight failure. The cables rub against the back of the stereo and eventually get damaged.
Solution:
You will need to fix the wires, re-insulate them with some insulating tape and you could also place something around the wires to protect it from rubbing against the back of the stereo in the future.

Early rusting
Problem:
This version of the Mini is known to rust a lot earlier than other versions. This seems to be a particular problem around the wheel arches, front wings and panels.
Solution:
If the rust is not too bad you will be able to rub down the affected area, treat it and then touch up with relevant paint. If it has really deteriorated, you will need to cut out the affected area and weld a piece in, before repainting. You can always replace the body part if possible. We can help you find a replacement panel at a low price.

key fob problem
Problem:
If you are having problems with the central locking and/or immobiliser, then the usual issue is with the remote key fob. The key fob can lose the code to connect with the ECU, which results in bad communication between the key fob and the car. This results in problems with the central locking and the immobiliser not switching off, meaning you cannot start the car or unlock/lock the doors.
Solution:
The first thing to try is checking the battery in the key fob is not dead. Watch the video below to see how to change the battery. If this does not solve the problem, you have the common key fob loss of code issue. You will need to have the key fob re-programmed.
