SEAT Altea Common Problems and Solutions
Excessive tyre wear
Problem:
The tyres should wear evenly on your vehicle. If they do not, the Altea is known to have issues with suspension alignment. This leads to uneven tyre wear, with one side wearing down faster than the other.
Solution:
If your vehicle is still under warranty, SEAT will repair the suspension alignment issue free of charge. Otherwise, the cost will be your responsibility. You may also need to replace the worn tyres if more than 75% of the tyre tread is below the legal limit of 1.6mm.

Noisy suspension
Problem:
The front suspension wishbone bushes are known to fail on the Altea. If you hear loud noises from the front suspension when driving over rough surfaces or speed bumps, then this is usually the cause.
Solution:
Replacing the wishbone bushes should resolve the issue.

ABS warning light
Problem:
When the ABS warning light appears on the dashboard, the most common cause of this issue on the Altea is a faulty ABS pump.
Solution:
Carry out a diagnostic check to confirm if this is the cause of the problem. You will need to replace the ABS pump to resolve the issue if it is.

Turbo failure
Problem:
A common issue with the Altea is the failure of the turbo bearing. When this part fails, it requires replacing the entire turbo. Typical signs of this issue include a very loud whistling noise from the top of the engine and/or black smoke emanating from the exhaust.
Solution:
As mentioned earlier, you will need to replace the entire turbo if the bearing is faulty. The turbo can be an expensive part to replace, but we can assist you in finding one at a very reasonable price. Watch the video below for an idea of how to replace the turbo.
