Gearbox problems

Problem:

Can you hear a whining noise coming from the gearbox? Does this seem to disappear when you apply the clutch? This noise is caused by the end plate bolts becoming sheared, resulting in a plate moving around and rubbing against the gears. This is a common issue on this car, which appears to be more noticeable at high RPMS speeds.

Models affected:

Solution:

You will need to remove the 5th gear cover to access these bolts. You must replace the bolts to prevent the plate from moving. It's best to get this sorted as soon as possible to avoid further gearbox damage, which could lead to costly repairs if anything else gets damaged.

Car Won't Start While Engine Hot

Problem:

If you switch off the engine and then try to restart it after a few minutes, it won't turn over. You won't experience the same problem if the engine has had a chance to cool down.

Models affected:

Solution:

This is something called 'hot soak', and it doesn't just affect the Baleno. The issue is fuel vapourising when you have turned off the engine. It's usually caused by a faulty fuel pump that will need replacing, which you can find easily on our parts page for the Baleno. Don't forget to check that the fuel return line is working too, as this can make fuel pump faults more serious.
