Gearbox problems
Problem:
Can you hear a whining noise coming from the gearbox? Does this seem to disappear when you apply the clutch? This noise is caused by the end plate bolts becoming sheared, resulting in a plate moving around and rubbing against the gears. This is a common issue on this car, which appears to be more noticeable at high RPMS speeds.
Solution:
You will need to remove the 5th gear cover to access these bolts. You must replace the bolts to prevent the plate from moving. It's best to get this sorted as soon as possible to avoid further gearbox damage, which could lead to costly repairs if anything else gets damaged.

Starting problems
Problem:
Are you having trouble starting the car? Has the engine management warning light come on the dashboard? If both answers are yes, you probably have an issue with the crankshaft position sensor. The video below explains how the crankshaft position sensor works:
Solution:

Engine misfiring/poor idling
Problem:
The ignition coils are known for failing on the Baleno. If these fail, you will notice that the car misfires and the engine idling becomes very erratic, instead of the revs remaining steady speed.
Solution:
You will need to replace the ignition coils to resolve the issue.

Car Won't Start While Engine Hot
Problem:
If you switch off the engine and then try to restart it after a few minutes, it won't turn over. You won't experience the same problem if the engine has had a chance to cool down.
Solution:
This is something called 'hot soak', and it doesn't just affect the Baleno. The issue is fuel vapourising when you have turned off the engine. It's usually caused by a faulty fuel pump that will need replacing, which you can find easily on our parts page for the Baleno. Don't forget to check that the fuel return line is working too, as this can make fuel pump faults more serious.

The ENG-A-STOP System Has Stopped
Problem:
The ENG-A-STOP warning light is blinking, and the ENG-A-STOP system has become inoperative.
Solution:
This issue arises from faulty software in the ECM module. A Suzuki dealer will need to reprogram the ECM.
Difficulty level
Engine Stall
Problem:
The engine stalls, and both the water pump charging light and the coolant temperature warning light will come on.
Solution:
In models produced between February 2016 and December 2017, there is a potential issue with the Integrated Starter Generator Belt snapping. The entire ISG belt must be ordered from BreakerYard and replaced if faulty.
