Suzuki Ignis Common Problems and Solutions
Smoking Ignition Switch
Problem:
Smoke is emanating from the ignition switch.
Solution:
This is a fault that affects many Ignis models built between 2000 and 2004. It is caused by carbonized grease inside the ignition switch. This issue could potentially cause a fire if it worsens, so do not ignore it. The only solution is to replace the faulty switch with a new one, which you can easily order from us.

EGR valve blocked
Problem:
The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve is prone to clogging with carbon deposits. When the EGR valve becomes blocked, it leads to misfiring, sluggish acceleration, and rough engine idling. The idling will be irregular, rather than the revs staying at a steady level.
Solution:
You can remove the EGR valve and clean it with some carb cleaner and a toothbrush to remove the carbon build-up. This should resolve the issue. The video below will give you an idea of how to do this.

Squeaking/creaking noise
Problem:
There is a known issue with the roll bars on the Ignis. If these parts are faulty on your vehicle, you will hear a squeaking or creaking noise coming from the suspension area while driving corners.
Solution:
You can apply some grease to the roll bars. This should stop the noise, but Suzuki is currently looking for a more permanent fix for this problem.

Steering problems
Problem:
When you turn the steering wheel from full lock to full lock in the opposite direction, can you hear a clunking or knocking noise from the steering rack? If so, this is caused by worn inner tie rods, which will need replacing. It's best to try this when the vehicle is stationary.
Solution:
As mentioned earlier, you will need to replace the inner tie rods to resolve this issue. We can assist you in finding replacement inner tie rods at very affordable prices.

Engine management warning light
Problem:
If you notice the engine management warning light on your dashboard, the most likely cause is a faulty oxygen sensor. An increase in fuel consumption is another common sign of this part failing.
Solution:
You will need to run a diagnostic check to accurately identify if the fault is caused by the oxygen sensor. If it is, then you will need to purchase and fit a replacement oxygen sensor to clear the warning light and resolve the issue.

High Fuel Consumption
Problem:
You need to top up your fuel a lot.
Solution:
The Ignis is usually excellent for fuel efficiency, so having to fill up too often indicates a problem with your fuel pump. Check it and replace it if it appears worn or damaged. We always stock fuel pumps at our store.

Charging Light Illuminated
Problem:
The charging light has come on, as well as the coolant temperature warning light. The car may begin to stall and then fail to restart.
Solution:
The ISG belt has most likely snapped. Check our parts list for an Integrated Starter Generator belt and fit your replacement. This can be a tricky job, but it’s simpler than you might think.
