Suzuki Ignis Common Problems and Solutions
Smoking Ignition Switch
Problem:
There is smoke coming from the ignition switch.
Solution:
This is a fault that affects a lot of the Ignis models built between 2000 and 2004. It’s being caused by carbonized grease inside the ignition switch. This issue will likely cause a fire if left to worsen, so don’t ignore it. The only cure is to remove the faulty one and fit a new ignition switch which you can order quickly from us.

EGR valve blocked
Problem:
The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve is known to get clogged up with carbon. When the EGR valve becomes blocked, it causes misfiring, poor acceleration and poor engine idling. The idling will be erratic, instead of the revs remaining at a constant speed.
Solution:
You can remove the EGR valve and clean it with some carb cleaner and a toothbrush, to remove the carbon build up. This should solve the problem. The video below, will give you an idea on how to do this:

Squeaking/creaking noise
Problem:
There is a known issue with the roll bars on the Ignis. If these parts are faulty on your vehicle, you will be hearing a squeaking, or creaking noise coming from the suspension area as you drive around corners.
Solution:
You can apply some grease to the roll bars. This should stop the noise, but Suzuki are currently looking for a more permanent fix for this problem.

Steering problems
Problem:
When you turn the steering wheel from full lock to full lock the other way, can you hear a clunking/knocking noise from the steering rack? If so, this is due to worn inner tie rods, which will need to be replaced. You are best to try this when the vehicle is stationary.
Solution:
As mentioned above, you will need to replace the inner tie rods to sort this issue. We can help you to find replacement inner tie rods, at very low prices.

Engine management warning light
Problem:
If you have noticed that the engine management warning light has appeared on the dashboard, then the most likely cause is a faulty oxygen sensor. An increased fuel consumption is another common symptom of this part failing.
Solution:
You will need to run a diagnostic check, in order to correctly identify if it is the oxygen sensor causing the fault. If it is, then you will need to purchase and fit a replacement oxygen sensor to remove the warning light, and fix the problem.

High Fuel Consumption
Problem:
You have to fill up your fuel a lot.
Solution:
The Ignis is usually fantastic when it comes to fuel efficiency, so having to fill up too often is a sign that there’s something wrong with your fuel pump. Check it over, and replace it if it looks worn or damaged. We always have fuel pumps available in our store.

Charging Light Illuminated
Problem:
The charging light has become lit, as has the coolant temperature warning light. The car may start to stall and then will not restart.
Solution:
The ISG belt has most likely broken. Look for an Integrated Starter Generator belt on our parts list and install your replacement. This can be a fiddly task, but it’s easier than you might assume.
