Suzuki Splash Common Problems and Solutions
Traction Light Illuminated
Problem:
The traction control light is on. The brake pedal has become significantly less responsive. The brakes might even seize up.
Solution:
This issue is caused by a faulty pressure sensor on your ABS unit, and it's a serious problem. Replacing the sensor alone will only temporarily fix the issue because the underlying cause is within the ABS itself. You can find a replacement ABS unit on our parts page for the Splash, but this is a complex task that you might prefer to leave to the professionals. However, there are online guides available that can walk you through the process if you want to avoid a large repair bill.

Whirring Sound In Gearbox
Problem:
You can hear a whirring noise coming from the gearbox when you're in first gear. The noise stops when you shift to a different gear.
Solution:
It could simply be that you don't have enough oil in the car, which is beginning to wear out your gearbox. Top up your oil and let the car run for a while. If that doesn't resolve the issue, then you should inspect the gearbox linkages and order new ones if they are worn out. In extreme cases, it may be more straightforward and cost-effective to replace the entire gearbox, which you can have delivered when you order from our parts list.

Windscreen Wiper Failure
Problem:
The windscreen wiper began to squeak when used but has now stopped working altogether.
Solution:
The windscreen wiper mechanism on the Suzuki Splash often fails around the 1000-mile mark. It's quite frustrating, but you can order a higher-quality motor directly from Breakeryard that will fix the problem and last much longer.

Faulty suspension springs
Problem:
If you hear a sharp banging noise from the suspension as you drive over speed bumps, it indicates broken suspension springs.
Solution:
Replacing the suspension springs will resolve the issue.
Difficulty level
Rear suspension strut failure
Problem:
The rear suspension struts are prone to failure on the Splash. If you hear a knocking noise coming from the rear suspension while driving, this is caused by faulty suspension struts.
Solution:
You will need to fit replacement suspension struts to resolve the issue. Watch the video below for guidance on how to replace the suspension struts:

SCS warning light
Problem:
If the SCS (Stability Control System) warning light appears on the dashboard, it indicates a fault with the SCS.
Solution:
You will need to replace the entire SCS to resolve the issue. Although this can be costly, we can assist you in finding a replacement SCS at a very affordable price.

Oily smell
Problem:
Can you notice an oily odour inside the cabin? When you open the bonnet, do you notice the same smell at the rear of the engine? If so, this is caused by a split oil breather pipe.
Solution:
You will need to replace the oil breather pipe to eliminate the smell.

DPF warning light
Problem:
Have you noticed that the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) warning light has appeared on the dashboard? If so, this is caused by the DPF becoming blocked. Any car fitted with a DPF is not suitable for only short journeys, as this prevents the DPF from reaching high enough temperatures to burn off the harmful particles.
Solution:
To remove the warning light from the dashboard, take the car onto an open road and drive in 3rd or 4th gear at 50-60mph for about 15-20 minutes. This helps the DPF to heat up enough to burn off these particles. Once done, the DPF warning light should turn off.

Overheating Engine
Problem:
Your engine is rapidly overheating.
Solution:
If your Splash was built in the later months of 2013, then the bolts fixing the pulley to the water pump often become loose and fall out. This stops the water pump from working, and if you don't address this issue, your engine could suffer serious damage. Start by replacing these bolts with ones that can be tightened to the correct torque. If the problem has persisted, you might also need to replace the water pump and the drive belt, both of which can be found at the BreakerYard store.
