Suzuki Splash Common Problems and Solutions
Traction Light Illuminated
Problem:
The traction control light is lit up. The brake pedal has become much less responsive. The brakes may even seize up.
Solution:
This is being caused by a faulty pressure sensor on your ABS unit, and it's a major problem. Replacing the sensor itself is only going to see you dealing with the problem again because the root cause of the problem is in the ABS itself. You can find a replacement ABS unit on our parts page for the Splash, but this is a big job that you might want to leave to the professionals. However, there are guides available online that will walk you through the process if you want to avoid that big bill.

Whirring Sound In Gearbox
Problem:
You can hear a whirring sound coming from the gearbox when you're in first gear. The sound goes when you move to a different gear.
Solution:
It could simply be that you don't have enough oil in the car, which is starting to degrade your gearbox. Top up your oil and let the car run for a while. If that doesn't fix the problem, then you need to inspect the gearbox linkages and order new ones if they have become worn out. In extreme cases, you will find it easier and more cost-effective to replace the whole gearbox, which you can have delivered when you order from our parts list.

Windscreen Wiper Failure
Problem:
The windscreen wiper started to squeak when in use but has now failed completely.
Solution:
It's common on the Suzuki Splash for the windscreen wiper mechanism to fail at around the 1000 mile mark. It's quite annoying, but you can order a better motor direct from Breakeryard that will resolve the issue and won't need to be replaced for a long time.

Faulty suspension springs
Problem:
If you can hear a sharp banging noise coming from the suspension as you drive over speed bumps, this is an indication of broken suspension springs.
Solution:
Replacing the suspension springs will fix the problem.

Rear suspension strut failure
Problem:
The rear suspension struts are prone to failure on the Splash. If you can hear a knocking noise coming from the rear suspension as you are driving, this is caused by faulty suspension struts.
Solution:
You will need to fit replacement suspension struts, in order to solve the issue. Watch the video below, for an idea on how to replace the suspension struts:

SCS warning light
Problem:
If the SCS (Stability Control System) warning light has appeared on the dashboard, it means you have a faulty SCS.
Solution:
You will need to replace the whole SCS, in order to fix the problem. However, this can be expensive to replace, but we can help you to find a replacement SCS, at a very low price.

Oily smell
Problem:
Can you smell an oily odour inside the cabin? When you open the bonnet do you smell this same smell at the rear of the engine? If so, this is caused by a split oil breather pipe.
Solution:
You will need to replace the oil breather pipe to stop the smell.

DPF warning light
Problem:
Have you noticed that the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) warning light has appeared on the dashboard? If so, this is caused by the DPF becoming blocked up. Any car fitted with a DPF is not suited to being used for only short journeys , as this does not allow the DPF to get hot enough, in order to burn off the harmful particles.
Solution:
To remove the warning light from the dashboard, you will need to take the car out onto an open road and drive it in 3rd or 4th gear at speeds of 50-60mph, for about 15-20 minutes. This will allow the DPF to get hot enough, allowing it to burn off these particles. This should turn off the DPF warning light on the dashboard.

Overheating Engine
Problem:
Your engine is quickly overheating.
Solution:
If your Splash was built in the later months of 2013, then the bolts that fix the pulley to the water pump will often work themselves loose and fall out. That stops the water pump from working, and if you don't tackle this issue, your engine is going to end up severely damaged. Start by replacing the bolts with ones that can be tightened to the correct torque. If the problem has been ongoing, then you may also have to replace the water pump and the drive belt, all of which can be found in the BreakerYard store.
