Vauxhall Nova Common Problems and Solutions
Engine cutting out problems
Problem:
A common problem on the Nova is for the engine to cut out when stopping at a junction of traffic lights. When the car idles it cuts out, and you need to keep revving to stop this. This is usually caused by a blockage in the fuel jets.
Solution:
To solve this problem, you will need to remove the air filter and spray a decent amount of carb cleaner down the fuel jets. If this doesn't fix the problem you will most likely need to replace the carburettor.

Suspension problems
Problem:
When you are driving over rough surfaces, or speed bumps and you hear a knocking noise coming from the suspension, it is most likely a broken coil spring. Coil springs are known for snapping on these vehicles.
Solution:
You will need to get a new one fitted to rectify the problem. Watch the video to see how to change a coil spring:

Headlight stalk problem
Problem:
These vehicles are known for having problems with the headlight stalk, particularly the main beam. Sometimes, it will allow the main beams to switch on but doesn't let you flash the lights to warn other drivers. The most likely cause is the stalk.
Solution:
These are not too difficult to replace and fitting a new one should rectify the problem.

Car won't start
Problem:
If your car seems to be having problems starting then it is most likely the alternator at fault. If your alternator is not working properly then it is not charging the battery.
Solution:
If you replace the alternator, this should resolve the issue.

High pressure in system
Problem:
If you have noticed that when the car is not running there is high pressure in the water system. The most likely cause is a blockage somewhere in the cooling system due to an air lock.
Solution:
First of all drain the cooling system and then flush it out. Also, take off the radiator and flush it through as well. Fit the parts back on and this should solve your problem.

Car idling really loud
Problem:
If your Vauxhall Nova is idling at very high revs, almost sounding like you have your foot on the pedal, it is most likely a fault with the idle control sensor.
Solution:
Check this part, clean the connections, and try refitting. If that doesn't work you will have to replace the sensor.
