Volkswagen Touran Common Problems and Solutions
Metallic Knock Sound When Driving
Problem:
You can hear a metal-on-metal sound coming from the front of the car, particularly when driving over an uneven surface.
Solution:
Your first step is to inspect the pads in the calliper. You might be able to resolve the issue simply by giving the pads a good clean. If not, then check your suspension arms, bushes, and suspension bearings. Order replacements for any worn or damaged components, all of which you can find easily on our parts list.

Loose Seat Belt
Problem:
One or more of the seat belts are hanging loose when not in use, and the belts do not lock when pulled.
Solution:
If your Touran was built in 2017 or earlier, there is a high chance it has a faulty seat belt pre-tensioner. You won't need to replace the entire seat belt, though. Check our parts list for a seat belt pre-tensioner and install it yourself easily.

The turbocharger has ceased to engage.
Solution:
This is an unavoidable consequence of ageing, and your turbocharger has reached the end of its lifespan. You can find a replacement turbo on our parts list, and it's a relatively quick installation.

Flywheel failure
Problem:
On the latest versions of the Volkswagen Touran, particularly those equipped with the start/stop feature, early wear of the flywheel is common due to the frequent starting and stopping of the engine. You may have noticed an unusual amount of vibration on the clutch pedal when the engine is idling, which is caused by the faulty flywheel.
Solution:
If the car is under warranty, the repair should be free; otherwise, it will cost a lot to replace the flywheel. New flywheels can be expensive, but you can find quality used ones with us.

DPF warning light
Problem:
The DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is responsible for removing harmful particles from a diesel vehicle's exhaust system. If the DPF warning light comes on your vehicle, it is usually because the vehicle has mainly been used to drive around town, as the DPF doesn't get hot enough to burn off the unwanted particles.
Solution:
You will need to take the car onto a motorway or A-road and drive in fourth gear at around 2500rpm for about 15 minutes to burn off these unwanted particles. This should also turn off the warning light on the dashboard. If it doesn't, then you might need to replace the DPF, or there could be an issue with a sensor. Check out the video below to see how to resolve this problem.

Window washer jet problem
Problem:
It is known that the window washer jets on the VW Touran can fail, especially in cold weather. If you find that they are not spraying water when you try to clean the windows, it is usually caused by a crack in the pipe leading to the washer jet.
Solution:
You will need to replace the pipe to resolve the issue.

Water leaking into footwell
Problem:
If you have noticed water leaking onto the footwells, this is a common issue on the Touran caused by poor drainage in the doors. You may hear water swooshing inside the door when you open or close it quickly.
Solution:
You need to drain the water and sort out the drainage to resolve the issue. If your vehicle is under warranty, it will be repaired free of charge; otherwise, you will need to pay for the repair.

Fuel Leak
Problem:
Fuel is leaking onto the road.
Solution:
The older the Touran, the more likely it is that the bolts securing part of the diesel pump will break. Most of the time this will have already been repaired, but if the work hasn't been carried out on your car, you'll need to buy a replacement from our store.
