The 2015 Volvo XC90 is set to try a new type of Hybrid as Volvo aim to set themselves apart from other manufacturers. The XC90 was first introduced in 2003 and the second generation is set to be released later this year. Volvo are aiming for something different with their new petrol electric hybrid engine which is included in the available engine range. Hakan Samuelsson the Chief Executive Officer of Volvo Cars says: “Sometimes you have to make radical choices, but we’re not a bit nervous about it. The brand has to stand out a bit more.” This will be the first 4WD to have both an electric engine and a petrol engine. Bloomberg have this to say about the new Volvo hybrid: “Customers who want more than the 190 horsepower generated by the standard combustion engines can order electric motors that give the vehicle as much as 400 horsepower. The hybrid models will have four-wheel drive as the electric motors power the rear wheels while the conventional engines power the front.” Do you think this type of engine could be a trend setter? The front end is longer and the rear end is curvier than the first generation version. As with all Volvo motors, the safety features are exceptional. The 2015 XC90 active safety features include steering assist and pedestrian detection. The XC90 will also be fitted with the Apple Carplay which will allow people who own an iPhone to play music, answer phone calls and search maps. Have a look at the Volvo XC90 video below:
