Recently the Audi A6 received a top rating of 5 stars by the US NCAP American Crash Test Program. The A6 received the maximum 5 stars for crash safety in the following areas: adult protection in frontal and side impact collisions and also in a rollover situation.
This 5 star rating adds to its top 5 stars received by the American NHTSA (National Highway Transport Safety Administration) for passive crash safety. The A6 also received a full 5 star rating at the Euro NCAP safety tests back in 2011. This makes the A6 one of the safest cars in the executive car class.
What makes this recent top score even better is that the US NCAP made the testing tougher in the front and side impact collision tests back in 2010.
It is not only the driver and front passenger which is really safe in this car but the rear passengers are extremely protected as the top score in the side impact tests revealed.
Among Audi's other great safety features there is the automatic distance control system adaptive cruise control (ACC) which can bring the vehicle to a complete halt if needed. There is also the Audi Pre Sense System which is an innovative piece of technology which can partially or fully apply the brakes in a collision to reduce the overall impact.
