Nissan Caravan Overview

The Nissan Caravan is classed as a cargo van or fleet vehicle which is produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturing company Nissan. This vehicle has been in production since 1973 and is currently in its fifth generation. The Caravan is also known as the Nissan Urvan, Nissan Homy and King Van in other markets. The Caravan name was mainly for the Japanese market. They can be used for transporting goods as well as passenger vehicles and come in several different variants. The cabin is rather comfortable and spacious and some of the models are pretty well equipped. The latest versions are quite good looking, stylish little vans. The load area in the rear has plenty room and these vehicles are seen as being pretty reliable. Does this sound anything like your experience of the Caravan?

Nissan Caravan History

The first generation (1973-80) of the Nissan Caravan was released in 1973 and was an instant success, especially being very popular in Europe. The passenger version was available with between 3 and 10 seats. This version was known as the Datsun Urvan in Europe.

The second generation (1980-86) was the last version to be sold as the Datsun Urvan in Europe, when the Datsun name was discontinued.

The third generation (1986-2001) had many improvements made from the previous two versions and was a much better performer, easier to drive and looked much better. It had to facelifts over its lifetime.

The fourth generation (2001-12) was more of an updated version of its predecessor which didn't fair to well in safety tests. The fifth generation (2012-present) is the current version on the market.
