Vauxhall Midi Van Overview

The Vauxhall Midi Van is classed as a commercial vehicle which was produced by the British automobile manufacturing company Vauxhall Motors. Vauxhall Motors is the UK subsidiary of German company Opel, and this vehicle was in production from 1985 to 1994. This vehicle was originally marketed as the Bedford Midi until the Bedford name was discontinued and then changed to the Vauxhall Mini. The Midi, is basically a rebadged Isuzu Fargo which is built in the UK, and was marketed under several different names in different countries, including GM Midi and Isuzu Midi. These little vans are good to drive and pretty good economically. They are also good little workhorses, which are reliable but the build quality is not the best. Does this sound like your experience of this vehicle?

Vauxhall Midi History

The Midi was produced as a replacement for the Bedford CF. It was produced at the Bedford Luton plant and was a rebadged Isuzu Fargo, with not much differences at all. It was firstly marketed as the Bedford Midi until Bedford was sold and the van was re-marketed as the Vauxhall Midi in 1988. General Motors (who owned Bedford and Vauxhall) decided it was cheaper to use designs from other manufacturers they owned rather than building new ones. This vehicle received a facelift in 1989 with new interior and exterior designs. The mechanics remained the same. The midi Van ceased production in 1994 and was eventually replaced with the Vauxhall Arena in 1997.

Fuel Economy

The Vauxhall Midi Van was available with 1.8 or 2.0L petrol and 2.0, 2.2 or 2.4L turbo diesel engines. The diesel engines are the more economical, offering up to 45mpg which is really good. Which engine did you have and how did it perform economically? Think about the age, engine size and fuel type when considering fuel economy.

Transmission

The Vauxhall Midi Van was available in the following gearboxes: 3 or 4 speed automatic and 4 or 5 speed manual gearboxes. Which gearbox did you have and how did you rate its performance? We have a section of our website dedicated to Vauxhall gearbox parts where you can search for the gearbox parts you need for your Midi Van.
