Volkswagen Crafter Overview

The Volkswagen Crafter is classed as a light commercial vehicle which is produced by the German automobile manufacturing company Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, which is a subsidiary of The Volkswagen Group. This vehicle is the largest of the 3-5 tonne vehicles produced by Volkswagen (VW) and is the third generation of the VW LT series. It has been in production since 2006 and is still in production today. Internally the Crafter is known as the LT3 and it is basically a rebadged Mercedes Sprinter but with a Volkswagen powertrain (engine, gearbox and other parts). These vans are extremely well built, are very spacious and comfortable and have some real quality engines. They are strong and powerful and definitely worth considering. Volkswagen Crafter History

The Volkswagen Crafter arrived on the market in 2006, replacing the long serving LT. The LT had been in production for 31 years and the Crafter is known as the LT3 internally. This vehicle is a joint venture between the Volkswagen Group and Mercedes-Benz. The Mercedes version is known as the Mercedes Sprinter and looks the same, but they have different drivetrains. These vehicles are seen as being a top of the range vans and certainly live up to that name. This is the current version in production.

The Volkswagen Crafter is available in the following engines: 2.0 and 2.5L diesel. These engines are pretty good economically, with the 2.0L being the best and offering up to 32mpg which is not too bad. Which engine do you have and how does it perform in terms of fuel economy?
