This vehicle is marketed under the Premacy name in Japan, and was marketed under this name in most countries until the introduction of the Mazda 5 name in 2005. This MPV is very spacious inside, it handles really well and the latest version looks very stylish. This vehicle is good value for money but many of the rivals in this class offer better features for this type of vehicle, hence are therefore more popular choices.

Mazda5 History

The first generation (1999-2004) was not yet marketed as the Mazda5 but was sold worldwide as the Premacy. This was to be the vehicle that was the base for the changeover to Mazda5. This was the cheapest MPV on the market and was available in both front wheel drive and 4x4. The second generation (2005-10) was the first generation to use the Mazda5 name. The only county which still used the Premacy name was Japan. This vehicle was designed on the Ford C1 platform, the same as the Mazda3 whom it shares many features with. This vehicle was very similar the the Ford I-max, whom it shares the same platform. This vehicle offers folding flat third row seats with the second row being foldable and some versions removable. In 2008 it received a makeover, with new bumpers, lights and a 5-speed automatic gearbox replacing the old 4-speed version. The third generation (2011 - ) is the current version in production. This version is so much more user-friendly than its predecessors. It offers the new Mazda i-stop stop/start technology, which reduces emissions by up to an amazing 15%. A new 6-speed manual gearbox is offered with the new engines available in this range.
