The Peugeot 108 entered into production this year for a 2015 nameplate. The new 108 replaced the Peugeot 107 and is built as a partnership between Toyota and PSA Peugeot Citroen. This means that the new Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1 and Peugeot 108 share the same platform and many of the same drivetrains. The Peugeot 108 is available from as little as £8,245 and can offer a fantastic 74.3mpg. There are two different engines available: 1.0 and 1.2L petrol variants. With the sleek design of the new 108, Peugeot are aiming at young drivers with this design. The 108 was first released in the summer of this year and there have already been 5,000 of these vehicles sold in the UK, with the majority of buyers being classed as young drivers. The 108 is certainly a lot more stylish looking than the Toyota and Citroen counterparts, as Peugeot aim to go a bit more upmarket. It is certainly a big improvement over its predecessor, the 107 in this area. Ivo Groen is the cars designer and this is what he had to say about the 108: “The 107 had a very cab-forward ‘mono-volume’ silhouette. We wanted to give the 108 more of a nose and the powerful feeling that comes with that. We wanted to reduce the glass and increase the sculpting of the body, and at the same time give it a timeless elegance.” One of its features that will certainly appeal to younger buyers is the retractable fabric roof. The 108 is certainly well worth considering if you are after a stylish looking city car. What do you think of the new Peugeot 108? Do you think it can be a serious competitor in the city car class?
