Suspension problems
Problem: If you are experiencing problems with the suspension on your Ford Taurus, you are not alone. This is a common problem on these vehicles, especially from 2000-2005. The biggest issue has been with broken coil springs, but rear struts, ball joints and other suspension parts have been known to be faulty.
Solution: When you identify exactly which part is broken, you will need to replace it to resolve your current issue.
Gearbox problems
Problem: It has been known for the Taurus to experience problems with the gearbox. The main gearbox issue has been with the gears slipping, but there have also been issues with strange noises coming from the gearbox.
Solution: This could be very expensive to resolve, and could even mean a new gearbox is needed. Have a professional look at the vehicle to identify the exact nature of the problem, which will most likely lead to replacing the affected part.
Fuel Economy problems
Problem: If you are experiencing lack of fuel economy on your Taurus then it could be down to the speed control valve being faulty.
Solution: Fitting a new speed control valve will rectify this issue.
Check engine warning light
Problem: If your check engine warning light has now come on permanently then it is more than likely the mass flow sensor which is at fault.
Solution: You had best get a diagnostic check done to correctly identify exactly which part is at fault. Once identified you will probably have to change the part.
Acceleration problems
Problem: The Ford Taurus has known issues with acceleration problems, noticeably the cruise control. The cars have been known to really speed up without pressing on the accelerator. This is due to a faulty cruise control cable.
Solution: Replacing this cruise control cable will resolve the issue.
Exhaust problems
Problem: These cars are known for issues with a cracked exhaust pipe. Particularly on the 1999 Taurus on the Y-pipe between the cats.
Solution: You will need to replace this part to fix the problem.
Antenna problems
Problem: The antenna should be automatically going up or down when the car is turned on/off. The antenna is known to break on these vehicles. Even if you hear the motor running, and the antenna isn't working, there is a fault in the wiring.
