Mazda 2 Overview

The Mazda 2 is classed as a supermini car and is produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturing company Mazda. It has been in production since 2002 when it replaced the Mazda Demio and is still in production up to the present day. This car won the 2008 world car of the year award. This car is very well priced and is great fun to drive. It is not the most comfortable ride and is not very well refined. They are well equipped and reliable but there are better options in this class from some rivals. They are very cheap to run and worth considering though. Does this sound anything like your experience of the Mazda 2?

Mazda 2 History

The first generation (2002-2007) Mazda 2 replaced the Mazda Demio in 2002 and can still be found in Japan using the Demio name. This car is built on the new DY platform, from which the Ford Fiesta B3 platform is derived. As Ford and Mazda share a lot of design features, the 1.4L diesel engine parts can be used on both as the engines are almost identical.

The second generation (2007-present) is built on the DE platform which is shared with the 2008 Ford Fiesta. This platform makes this version smaller than its predecessor and uses lighter materials, making it more lightweight. This is the current version on the market.
