Saab 900 Overview

The Saab 900 is a compact executive car produced by the Swedish manufacturer Saab Automobile. This vehicle was in production from 1978-98. There was the ‘classic’ first generation version which replaced the Saab 99 and then the new generation which ceased production in 1998 to be replaced with the Saab 9-3. This car has a look and feel of its own, and is easily distinguishable as the Saab 900. It has a lot of space in the boot and is a comfortable ride, but isn’t the best performing car. Overall this is a very affordable car.

Saab 900 History

The ‘Classic’ first generation (1978-93) replaced the Saab 99 and like its predecessor, it had some features that made this car easily distinguishable. The extremely curved windscreen gave the driver the best possible view and its curved control panel gave the driver easy access to all controls. This version received a makeover in 1987 which mainly affected the design of the front end and bumpers. The second generation (1994-98) shared its design platform with the Opel/Vauxhall Astra and was eventually replaced in 1998 with the Saab 9-3, which was the same car but with a supposed 1100 changes made to the vehicle. The ‘black panel’ design was available in S and SE models, which was an innovative feature designed by Saab, where the panel illuminations could be turned on and off by the driver or automatically when needed.
