Vauxhall Chevette Overview
The Vauxhall Chevette is classed as a supermini which was produced by the British automobile manufacturing company Vauxhall Motors. At this time Vauxhall was owned by General Motors who were producing a line of small cars under the 'T-car' name. This vehicle was in production from 1975 to 1984 and was introduced as a hatchback, being the first one in this class. They became very popular cars, being the best selling hatchback in the UK between 1975 and 1978. These cars were known for their reliability and good performance. They are also considered cheap to buy and not to bad on fuel. They were pretty spacious and had good steering. Does this sound like your experience of this car?
Vauxhall Chevette History
The Vauxhall Chevette was introduced in 1975 as Vauxhall wanted a small hatchback car on the market. It was the first of this type on the UK market and went on to be the best selling small hatchback in the UK until 1978. These cars were very popular amongst younger drivers due to their looks, price and performance. In 1976 the estate and saloon versions were introduced, based on the Opel Kadett. They were rear wheel drive and were exported to continental Europe after the discontinuation of the Kadett. The Chevette ceased production in 1984 and was replaced with the Vauxhall Nova.
