Audi S4 Overview

The Audi S4 is classed as a high performance compact executive car which is produced by the German automobile manufacturing company Audi. Audi is a division of the larger Volkswagen Group. The S4 is based on the Audi A4 and has been in production since 1991, when it was originally based on the Audi 100, but since 1997 all S4's have been based on the A4. These cars are the top end of the A4 range and are classy looking cars with a great exterior and interior design. They are very well built, have great engines which are very capable and also have the great Audi Quattro 4x4 system. They have great handling and safety features but can be expensive to run and very expensive to buy. Does this sound like your experience of this car?

Audi S4 History

The first generation (1991-94) S4 was introduced as a high performance version of the Audi 100. When the Audi 100 ceased production in 1994 the S4 name was dropped in favour of the S6, to match the A6 replacing the Audi 100. The second generation (1997-2002) of the S4 was introduced in 1997 as the Audi A4 began production and the S4 became the high performance version of the A4 and had a 2.7L engine. The third generation (2002-05) was built on an entirely new platform and had a new 4.2L engine. The fourth generation (2005-08) was pretty similar to its predecessor but with a few minor cosmetic and mechanical alterations. The fifth generation (2009-present) changed from the larger 4.2L engine to a 3.0L engine and is the current version in production.
