LDV 200 Overview

The LDV 200 is classed as a panel van and was produced by the British automobile manufacturing company Leyland DAF, which was then took over by LDV Ltd. This vehicle was in production from 1989 to 1997 and was a replacement for the Freight Rover 200 series. The LDV 200 is part of the Leyland DAF 200 series which was replaced with the LDV Pilot in 1997. These vans are cheap to buy and they are pretty reliable. They are slightly smaller than such panel vans as the Ford Transit, and they have an aging design and are a bit poor to drive. These vans were way behind competitors of that era and they were not the most comfortable of vans. Its low price was its main selling point. Does this sound like your experience of the LDV 200?

LDV 200 History

The LDV 200 was designed as a replacement for the Freight Rover 200 series. Leyland DAF took over from Freight Rover in 1989 and the only real difference from the previous version was the Leyland DAF grille and its narrow design meant it was great for driving around town. These vans were well behind their competitors technologically but their cheap prices kept them popular. Leyland DAF sold out in 1993 to form LDV Limited. In 1997 the LDV Pilot was introduced as a replacement for the LDV 200.

Fuel Economy

The LDV 200 was only ever available as 1.9L petrol engine. It originally had the Perkins Prima 1.9L engine but changed to the PSA XUD 1.9L which was more refined but less economical than the previous engine. Which engine did you have and how did it perform in terms of fuel economy? The engine size, age and fuel type are determining factors when it comes to fuel economy.

Transmission

The LDV 200 was only available in 5-speed manual gearbox. What was the gearbox like on your LDV 200 and how did you rate its performance? We have a section of our website dedicated to LDV gearbox parts where you can begin to search for the gearbox parts you need for your LDV 200.
