Toyota Previa Overview

The Toyota Previa is a large MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota. This vehicle is the largest MPV in the Toyota range. In Japan it is known as Toyota Estima whereas in Australia it is known as Toyota Taragoa. These vehicles are also known as ‘People Carriers’ and this is one of the most highly regarded of these vehicles. It is well built, high performance, spacious and comfortable but is very expensive to buy. Due to the cost and high regard, they tend to hold their value well.

Toyota Previa History

The first generation (1990-2000) had a strangely central mounted engine, which was located under the front seats of the vehicle. This meant that the weight distribution was improved, and meant better handling and better quality of ride. This vehicle was available in rear wheel drive and all wheel drive. The second generation (2000-06) was longer than its predecessor but was lower to the ground and narrower. This vehicle was now front wheel drive and was not sold in the US; instead the Toyota Sienna was sold there. The first electric hybrid version became available in this generation. The third generation (2006-present) is the current version in production. This version was not sold in Europe due to the popularity of the Ford Galaxy, but now the Toyota Verso compact MPV has partially filled the gap in the market left by the Previa.
