Both the Vauxhall Meriva and Zafira are set to become SUV's by the year 2016. As we all know the SUV vehicle is one of the most popular on the market today, with Nissan leading the way with their Juke, Qashqai and X-Trail models. Vauxhall are looking to make an impact on this ever growing market by changing their Meriva and Zafira MPV models into SUV styled MPV's by the year 2016. These new vehicles will be created in partnership with PSA Peugeot Citroen which will also mean that there will be new Peugeot and Citroen CUV's available. The new type of vehicles will be known as CUV's (Crossover Utility Vehicle). Tim Tozer is the Vauxhall chairman and managing director and he had this to say at the recent Paris Motor Show: “We describe these types of cars as CUVs. These are the cars that in the next generation we’re working with PSA on. We’re committed to cars that can carry all a family needs, but with the style that’s in fashion.” Although the new Vauxhall vehicles will be built in partnership with PSA Peugeot Citroen, it is expected at each variation will look different, but will share the same powertrain and suspension components. It is also expected that Vauxhall will produce a new flagship SUV in the near future too. Exciting times ahead. What do you think of the proposed plans to make the Vauxhall Meriva and Zafira SUV vehicles? Do you think they can seriously compete with the highly successful Nissan models?
