Citroen Berlingo Overview

The Citroen Berlingo is a small van or LAV (Leisure Activity Vehicle) and is part of the French car production team, Citroen. The structure of this vehicle is based on the Citroen ZX estate. You can see that the design concept has been taken from the long since out of production Citroen 2CV. Although this is marketed as a LAV or a MPV (Multi purpose Vehicle), it looks more like a van, which it is also available as family car. It drives rather well and is very spacious inside, just what’s needed for a family vehicle.

Citroen Berlingo History

The first generation Berlingo (1996-2008) was brought into production in 1996. It was designed by the Peugeot/Citroen group and is marketed as a small panel van as well as a small LAV. The small van version was well received in Europe and was named the best van in Europe in 1997. In 2004 it received a makeover, mainly to the exterior and interior. The headlamps, bumpers and few other exterior parts were renewed and it had a new instrument panel design on the interior amongst other interior changes. The second generation Berlingo (2008 - present) was based on the PSA PF2 design platform of the Fiat Grande Punto. Fiat and Peugeot have their own versions of this vehicle which are almost identical. Due to the increase in size and new design platform, it is more expensive than the previous version. A new range of engines has been brought in for this version.
