Ford Ka Overview

The Ford Ka is classed as a city car, small and robust, designed mainly for urban areas. It is the smallest of the Ford collection and is the cheapest as well. It is value for money and great on fuel costs as well as handling really well. It’s said that it’s a fun car to drive and nippy around town but doesn’t sound too good at high speeds and the interior could do with a makeover.

Ford Ka History

The first generation Ford Ka (1996-2008) was first produced by Ford as a small, low-cost car. Its design was based on the Ford Fiesta of the time, the MK4 but with a totally new body design. The design received a few raised eye brows due to its different design style. As Ford have made this vehicle on the Fiesta production line it is of a low cost to produce which means they can charge a low price, making it very affordable. The second generation (2008 - present) has a stylish new design with a totally different mechanical setup, but holds onto its curvy look. It is again designed by Fiat for Ford and the new design is in line with Ford’s kinetic design. It has good handling due to the good shock absorber design and steering capabilities.

Fuel Economy

As the engine sizes are small on this vehicle they offer good fuel economy. The engine sizes are: 1.3 and 1.6 on the MK1 and 1.2 and 1.3 on the MK2. The 1.3L MK2 is a diesel engine where the rest are petrol. The diesel obviously offers better fuel economy but overall the Ka has good mpg all around.

Transmission

The gearboxes are all 5 speed manual transmission and these can be found through our network of Breakers in the UK. Check out the Ford gearbox section of our website.
