Mercedes 280 Overview

The Mercedes 280 is classed as a compact executive car and is produced by the German automobile manufacturing company Mercedes-Benz. The 280 is part of the Mercedes C-Class range and has been in production since 1993 up to the present day. The C-Class replaced the 190 class and competes with the likes of the BMW 3-series. The C-Class is available in saloon and estate versions. These cars have the now familiar top of the range Mercedes safety features and amazingly good performance. They have a stylish design but are not as refined as you would expect. They are comfortable, spacious and luxurious inside. This is not as value for money as the BMW 3-series. Does this sound like your experience of the Mercedes 280?

Mercedes 280 History

The first generation (1993-2000) 280 had a 2.8L petrol engine and was the top end of the Mercedes C-class range. Although the styling of the first C-Class cars was carried over from the previous 190 range, it had some of its own styling, making it rounder. The second generation (2000-06) 280 had a 3.0L petrol engine and no longer meant that the name donated the engine size, i.e. 280 equalling 2.8L. This version was facelifted in 2004 with some exterior and interior refreshments. The third generation (2007-present) 280 has a 3.0L petrol engine and is built on a different platform, making it slightly larger than the previous versions, taking some inspiration from the S-Class. This is the current version on the market.
