Volkswagen Jetta History
The first generation (1979-84) Volkswagen Jetta was introduced to fill a gap in the small family saloon class for Volkswagen, and was pretty much a Golf with a boot.
The second generation (1984-92) was a very popular version which won the Best selling European car in the US. It was larger than the previous version.
The third generation (1992-99) was marketed as the VW Vento in Europe to appeal to younger drivers, but kept the Jetta name in the US due to the success of the previous version.
The fourth generation (1999-2005) was sold as the VW Bora on most markets, but again the US kept the Jetta name.
The fifth generation (2005-10) saw the return of the Jetta name to the European market and had the new stylish looking Volkswagen styling.
The sixth generation (2010-present) is the current version on the market and is the largest ever Jetta produced.
