Volkswagen Sharan Overview
The Volkswagen Sharan is classed as a large MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) and is produced by the German automobile manufacturer The Volkswagen Group. Another name for this type of vehicle is a ‘people carrier’ and it seats up to 7 people. This vehicle is available in front wheel drive and 4x4. This is one of the most spacious of MPVs on the market, is a good ride and the rear sliding doors are useful. This is one of the more expensive vehicles of this class.
Volkswagen Sharan History
The first generation Volkswagen Sharan (1995-2010) Sharan was built at the same factory as the Seat Alhambra and Ford Galaxy. This vehicle is exactly the same as the Seat version, just under a different name and with slightly different exteriors. The Galaxy has a few more differences, but is based on the same design. This vehicle had a makeover in 2000 and then again in 2004 affecting different parts such as grille and tail lights. More features were added as standard. In 2006 the Ford Galaxy was designed at its own factory, breaking away from the Seat and VW versions.
The second generation (2010 - present) is the current version on the market and within months of the release of this version Sharan, the Seat Alhambra version was released. The engine range was reduced greatly, with only 1.4 and 2.0 petrol and the 2.0 diesel.

Across the range are a wide variety of different
engines available. The petrol options are: 1.4, 1.8, 2.0 and 2.8 and the diesel engine are available in 1.9 and 2.0L. The most economical of the range is the 2.0 diesel which offers up to 50mpg. Remember the age, fuel type and engine size when considering fuel economy of a vehicle.
