Jeep Compass Overview

The Jeep Compass is in the class: compact crossover SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle). This means that it is built on a car platform and has many features of the standard SUV. This vehicle is designed by the American manufacturer Jeep, which is part of the Chrysler Group. This is the entry level SUV for Jeep, where as the next level SUV is the Jeep Wrangler. This vehicle is one of the cheapest to buy in its class but isn’t very good to drive and doesn’t handle all that well. It is more than capable off road though.

Jeep Compass History

This vehicle was first shown in 2006 in an American car show, and was released in 2007. These vehicles are mainly built for on-road use but can also perform off-road and there is a 4x4 optional version available. This vehicle is built on the PM/MK Chrysler platform. It rated poorly in the safety area and was only given 2 out of 5 in the European safety ratings.

In 2011 it received a makeover, changing the look of the vehicle. It started to look more like the Grand Cherokee but managed to maintain its own look and feel. It received new safety features which greatly improved on the previous model and had a new suspension system to improve the handling. This is the current version on the market.

Fuel Economy

The two available engines are 2.0 and 2.4 and aren’t the most economical vehicles of their class. Due to the size and weight of these vehicles, they tend to use a lot of fuel. The age and engine size will determine the economical value of the vehicle. The 2.0 is the more economical of the two.

Transmission

The gearbox options are: 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox. Have a look at the Jeep gearbox parts page to find the exact gearbox part you need.
