Mercedes ML270 Overview

The Mercedes ML 270 is a 4x4 luxury SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) produced by the German automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz. This vehicle shares the design platform of the GL-Class, which is the slightly larger vehicle and slots in between the GL-Class and smaller GLK-Class of Mercedes vehicles. The Mercedes ML270 are very luxurious and spacious inside and also look really classy. For the type of vehicle, they are not as costly as one would expect. They are good off-road but could be a lot better on-road. Not as reliable as would be expected from a Mercedes.

Mercedes ML270 History

The Mercedes ML 270 is part of the M-Series Mercedes 4x4 vehicles. The M-Series was first produced in 1997, after an extensive work by Mercedes to produce a luxury SUV to replace the previous G-Class. The first M-Class came off the production line in 1997, and was the first luxury SUV to feature electronic stability control and had front and side airbags as standard. This vehicle faired extremely well in safety tests. The first generation (1997-2005) M-Class was to be the only generation which would feature the ML 270, which was CDI diesel version. The first ML 270 was produced in 1998 for the European market, featuring a turbo diesel engine. It was also sold in Australia, and continued to be produced until 2005, when the second generation M-Series was introduced and this version was discontinued.

Fuel Economy

As this is a 2.7 turbo diesel version of the M-Class series, it is pretty big on fuel due to the fact that the engine is pulling a 2 tonne vehicle around, on and off road. Compared with similar vehicles of this class, it compares pretty well economically, and due to the fact it is a diesel, it fairs well compared to other versions of the M-Class. Overall, expect to pay a lot for fuel.
